Lamborghini Tractor History – Where it All Began

Lamborghini Trattori is an Italian farming machinery manufacturer. The Lamborghini company designs and builds tractors. It was founded in 1948 in Italy, Cento, by Ferruccio Lamborghini, who later established Automobili Lamborghini. 

In 1963, it became part of Società Accomandita Motori Endotermici (SAME). Lamborghini Trattori did not have a long tradition like the historical names Fiat Trattori and Landini; it had to use discarded war materials to produce its first tractors. 

Military vehicle and Truck engines and differentials sourced from ARAR (Azienda Rilievo Alienazione Residuati) centres were used to build the first “Carioca” tractors. 

These machines featured a powerful, innovative technical solution – a fuel atomizer which, when used in conjunction with a Morris engine, let the tractor start with petrol and then switch to diesel.

Lamborghini’s tractors were established famous and were soon made in numbers of 200 a week – up from the original one per week with which he started the company. 

As you would expect, the war surplus soon ran out, and given the increased production, Italian-made engines replaced Morris powerplants.

The L33 came out in 1951. It was the first tractor that Lamborghini made all by itself. It was powered by a 3.5-liter, 6-cylinder Morris engine with a fuel atomizer. In 1952, the DL30–DL40 series came out, which used diesel engines made in Italy. 

Ferruccio didn’t rest on his laurels, so he kept adding to the Lamborghini line. The first crawler, powered by a new diesel engine made by Lamborghini, came out in 1955, and a new factory opened in 1956. 

Ferruccio was doing well, so he did what all successful Italians do and purchased the newest Ferrari. He didn’t like how heavy the clutch was or how Enzo replied to his complaint, so he chose to do something about it. 

Ferruccio started Lamborghini Automobili in 1963 to make comfortable, high-performance cars that would be better for driving on the road than those made by another company.

The success of Lamborghini Automobili did not mean that the Trattori company would cease to exist. No, they’ve always had success alongside one another and a common interest in innovation. 

For instance, Lamborghini introduced all-synchromesh gears as standard equipment on tractors for the first time in Italy. It was also a pioneer in the development of modular water-cooled engines, electronic fuel injection, and its Electronic Power Shift gearbox. 

The business has developed further, adding a variety of micro tractors and broadening its selection of crawlers. It continues to receive recognition for its innovative design even in this decade.

Nowadays, when the term Lamborghini is brought up, images of spectacular and potent supercars come to mind. However, Lamborghini was first famous for its tractors before the renowned Italian brand began to be associated with supercars. 

Lamborghini Tractors, which started as a modest business in 1948, produced popular tractor models, including the 1R, 2R, and DL. Depending on the intended usage, these tractors were offered with different configurations, all-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive options. 

Ferruccio Lamborghini, the owner of Lamborghini, was able to purchase a variety of high-end sports vehicles, including a few Ferraris, because of Lamborghini Tractors’ popularity. 

When Lamborghini disassembled his Ferrari’s transmission because he thought the clutch was inferior, he discovered that the clutch was the same one he used in his tractors. 

Enzo Ferrari and Ferruccio Lamborghini got into a famous debate about this, during which Ferrari said he had no knowledge of high-performance automobiles, to which Lamborghini responded angrily by pledging to construct a vehicle that was superior to Ferrari. 

As they say, the rest is history. Importantly, Lamborghini still makes tractors today despite having altered the global supercar environment.
