Jwala Gutta is an Indian professional badminton player. She was born on 7 September 1983 in Wardha, Maharashtra, and brought up in Hyderabad, Telangana, to a Chinese mother and a Telugu father. In 2011, Gutta was awarded the Arjuna award by the Indian Government, India’s second-highest sporting honor for her achievements as a badminton player.

- Her father, Kranti Gutta, is a Telugu while her mother, Yelan Gutta, is of Chinese descent.
- Her mother, Yelan, is the granddaughter of a Chinese Gandhian, Tseng, who visited India in 1971 along with her mother to see the Sevagram Ashram and also translated Gandhi’s autobiography into the Chinese language.
